This week we are starting our weeklong festivity on relationships. It is going to be a really cool week. Tomorrow we start with a campus wide flower giveaway. We will be on campus hanging out helpful information on dating.
On Thursday we will have a special Free Lunch with fun games and Biblical discussion on love. On Thursday night we are having a Valentine’s party! We wills start at 8PM.

Last week we had an amazing time on campus raising money for the people of Haiti. We had over 40 BSM students that showed up to help and come together to rally UTPA students to give and help victims of the earthquake.
The event was called Hamburgers for Haiti. Through this effort we were able to raise money for three causes that are currently on the ground helping those that needed the most. Here are some pictures of the event (to see the full collection click here:
Hey GUYS! So this was so amazing
We had our second free lunch and praise the Lord that we had so many college students come that we ran out of hamburgers!! I saw a lot of new faces so keep inviting friends to come and join us Thursdays from 12-1pm!!
Today we are starting the new semester at our new building. We praise God for providing this amazing facility where UTPA students can come to meet friends, hang out, and learn about God.
Our building will be open from 9 Am to 7 PM this week. See you there!
If you visit our building often here is something you should now about parking:
1. You need to register your vehicle in order to receive your parking permit.
2. You BSM parking permit is free but it must be placed on your windshield.
3. In a couple of weeks all cars parked at the BSM without a permit will be subjected to towing.
4. We have reserved parking spaces for staff and guests so please do not park there.
Today marked the culmination of an answer to prayer made a few months ago. It literally feels surreal that we were able to witness this day that will have an impact in the lives of thousands of students at UTPA for generations to come.
At about 12 PM, the papers were signed that gave us full possession of the new Baptist Student Ministry building. The final walkthrough took about an hour. It was a legal transaction, however, for all of us BSM staff it was more than that, it was an answer to prayer, a testament to the amazing power of God to do that which is impossible for man to do.
Many of you know that a few months ago we began praying that God would provide the funding needed to remodel our 44 year old building. Within weeks, our prayer for a remodel became a bold prayer for a new building. We did not know how that was going to happen, we just knew that we needed to pray. A few months later we are now ready to move in to the brand new BSM Building. We simply can’t believe it.
After the papers were signed we invited the construction company staff and the bankers that helped us facilitate the deal that made the BSM building possible to lunch at the old BSM building. There we told them that we were thankful for helping us provide a place where students can learn about God and discover how they can live a life of service to God in their community. We also asked their permission so that we could pray at that time and give thanks to God for their lives. It was an awesome time.
After they left we decided that we needed to move the first BSM item to the new BSM. Without hesitation we grabbed a Bible and took off to the new BSM. The Word of God was the very first thing we moved into that building. There all 4 of us BSM staff (Bruce McGowan, Karen Velasquez, and Robert and Sharon Rueda) joined in prayer as we committed before God to use that building to teach the Bible so that students may know Christ and learn to follow him. It was a meaningful prayer as we all knew that God had provided this new building for his Glory so that college students may know Him. Praise God.

Thank You Lunch

BSM at UTPA Staff
We recently hosted the BSM 60’s party. It was a cool event organized by BSM students to raise money for the new building. They were very successful both in having a fun party and raising money.
Here are three of our favorite things:
1. Adults from a Calvary Baptist Church Life Group served our students by cooking and serving delicious 60’s food.
2. Our student leaders put on a really cool party
3. The money they raised will have an effect in the lives of college student both now and in future generations.
Thanks!

It is our privilege to have the BSM Band lead us in worship every week. They practice constantly and always lead us in worship in a meaningful way. All of them came to the BSM not knowing they were going to play in the band some day. They just showed up to see what we were doing. Once they came, they realized that God could use them using their gifts and talents to lead us in worship. I have been asked once or twice if we would ever welcome a non student band to lead us in worship every week. While I would welcome a one time visit, I would not change having a student led band. They are students, they get students, and they are able to minister to students effectively. Did I mention they are also good?
They are. They have worked hard and are now often invited to play in rallies, church services, camps, and they even went on tour to give concerts in Venezuela. I thank God for every one of them and give them a big thumbs up in our blog. Thanks Guys.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
Context
Paul is closing his letter to the church at Philippi. In this section he is thanking the church for their care manifested through their financial support. Not wanting to appear eager for their money nor in need of it, Paul recalls lessons learned about God’s provision for him.
Studying in parts..
And my God…. Paul here in an unusual way refers to God in a personal way. “My God” as if embracing experiences past where he experienced the provision of God in ways he never thought possible.
Will meet all your needs.. A statement that leaves no doubt about God’s provision for the needs of believers at Philippi. The future tense here implies that all must have full confidence that regardless of needs that arise, they can be confident that God will take care of them.
According to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus… The source of God’s supply is not based on an earthly supply, even though sometimes God’s supply is manifested in that way. However, Paul here is pointing to something deeper than that. He is pointing to Christ as our main source of provision. As evidenced in the context of this letter where he mentions that he has learned to be content regardless of his circumstances by learning that he can do all things through Christ who gives him strength (see Philippians 4:13).
Application
Today as in the past, people deal with financial situations that may bring anxiety. If you are a college student, you know that worrying about tuition costs, books, food, and even some spending money can make you worried sometimes. I met a student once who always made public the amount of money he carried in his wallet. “I have $3.50 for the week” he would say. It seemed to me that he looked to his wallet as his source of provision.
Paul here is reminding us to look beyond our wallet. To remember that God will supply all of our needs according to his riches in Christ Jesus. So in stead of considering what we have, lets consider this: God will provide all we need. So take a breather and relax, trust that God will take care of you.
